The population of the Etiopia is 80 million and there are about 80 different nationalities and 80 different languages. Amharic is the national language.

At the invitation of the Archbishop of Addis Ababa, the Congregation responded by sending 3 Sisters in 2008, with the mission to found an SJA community and mission. After studying the language one of the Sisters started teaching English in the Major Seminary in Gulele and later could help out with spiritual direction occasionally for some weekend and annual retreat, while the other 2 Sisters, after obtaining a work permit started teaching in Lideta Catholic Cathedral school, Addis Ababa.

A request came from the charitable foundation Milena to host patients and their families on their way to and from Khartoum Sudan for open heart surgery. The community welcomed the occasion and a regular group started coming on a monthly basis.

In 2009, the congregation decided to attach the community of Addis Ababa to the Province of Malta/Tunisia.
